The drawings in the Drift collection evoke the human anatomy—overlapping tissues that resist the process of decay. Each piece is centered on a white, unadorned background so that other media do not overshadow the driftwood’s strength. The focus on the wood insists on direct acknowledgment of the ideas of aging and degeneration, processes our culture frequently avoids. In this way, Drift offers an homage to age; it marks a refusal to allow the elderly or the process of aging to drift away into obscurity. Harvey’s driftwood drawings celebrate growing old; the pieces are like the gifts her father gave her at the end of his life.

Visitors and new members are always welcome - annual fee for 10 meetings and monthly sew days is $50, drop in fee is $10

"Reflecting on Home" seeks to honour the history of the land upon which the Ferry Building Gallery stands – the ancestral and unceded territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Nation) who have safeguarded these lands since time immemorial. All participating artists will delve into their individual interpretations of home.

Come join us for an evening of storytelling, laughter (and maybe even a cringy moment, or a tear or two) with emerging local writers from the awfully hilarious project and The Mom Babes.

awfully hilarious: stories we never tell became a best-seller overnight when it launched its collection of cringey dating stories and taboo bodily-fluid moments on Valentine’s Day this past year, and The Mom Babes now have their 3rd volume out on shelves (their 2nd volume won the Canadian Book Club Award in the short story/anthology genre).

This one’s for the big kids! Iconic Canadian children’s performer Fred Penner will grace the Arts Centre stage with a show for the "young at heart". Grab an adult beverage or two in The Gallery and get set for fun with Fred as he presents his grown-up take on your sing-along childhood favourites like “The Cat Came Back,” “Sandwiches,” plus originals and cover songs from his formative years.

Explore the magical and meditative qualities of basic calligraphy with exhibiting artist Li Tung.
Focus on learning fundamental techniques, how to express feelings using the brush and having fun rather than following a fixed set of specifications or achieving technical mastery.

Join gallery staff for a day of art discovery and cultural exploration as we visit a carefully chosen selection of artist's studio spaces around the east side of Vancouver—a mini "Culture Crawl" minus the crowds. Squamish at Dusk is a winter light art experience where captivating installations weave tales and immerse event-goers in a transformed environment. Participants will experience a fusion of light, art and narrative as installations unveil stories about our region, and transform our beloved park into a nighttime wonderland.

We will be 4 artists: Fran Solar - metal artist, Susan Remnant - jewellery designer, Maciek Walentovicz - jeweller + sculptor and myself, Zoë Evamy - water media and mixed media artist. The Ferry Building Gallery is excited to showcase artwork from West Vancouver art instructors for its first show of 2024. Through their diverse teachings, each instructor aims to inspire participants’ creativity by encouraging their students to experience the world from the standpoint of curiosity. Staying Curious honors these instructors by reflecting on their unique approaches to making art and their sources of creativity.
