Justine Schlote didn’t have all that much growing up in Squamish, BC, but she had love, nature, pencils and paints. She needs art like like she needs to breathe, so that makes her an artist.
The things she creates are predominantly multi-medium abstract. She mixes poetry with watercolour, acrylic dreams, the darkness and a little bit of razzle-dazzle .
She loves experimenting with lines and colours on almost everything she has available to use as a canvas; from old pizza boxes or wooden boards to scrap piles or puzzles. She loves to scavenge, imagine and create. Her art is a little skewed and a little crooked — it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s her — in words, colours, dots and shapes.
Art is something that just flows through Justine, making things with things already made or reusing things that aren’t loved anymore. That’s her light and she will let it shine. Everything she makes is a little piece of her heart and soul, so find the light in the dark and let it burn.
