Come out for a festive evening of weaving! Your body becomes the loom. This is a great class for the beginner weaver.
Each participant gets to take home their very own apple heddle and worm shuttle designed by myself and Walker’s House from Vancouver Island. Light snackys provided.
Band weaving creates functional and gorgeous textile bands that can be used as trim, ribbon, lanyards or as a stylish clothesline in your campervan. The best part? This style of weaving is meant to be taken outside! The compact nature of the 3″ by 3″ apple heddle makes it easy to slip into your backpack and pull out by the camp fire.
During this workshop participants will learn to warp a rigid heddle and set up a simplified backstrap method. What is back strap weaving you ask?? Your body becomes a loom! Clip one end of the warp threads to a picnic table and the other end to your belt loop and your loom is weaving ready.
Here are the details:
What: 2 hour in-person class including a unique heddle and shuttle to keep as well as materials for the class.
Who: Teens and up! (but reach out if you have a younger kiddo who wants to try and you can support them!)
What will you learn:
This hands-on class covers the basics of weaving terminology, loom setup, warping and weaving with a heddle and shuttle. Participants will gain an understanding of how the rigid heddle functions and how to use the backstrap for body-tensioned weaving and how to create simple and beautiful patterns within your band.
