Join artist James Harry as he shares the stories behind the creation of this monumental new work of public art, “Welcome Gate: Bridging Ancient Futures and Powerful Horizons”, from inception to realization.
This lecture is presented in partnership with The Brackendale Art Gallery.

James Harry
James Harry is recognized as one of Canada’s most innovative young artists, known for pushing the boundaries of traditional Coast Salish art while using his work to promote cultural understanding and reconciliation. His unique style blends intricate carving with bold, modern designs and incorporates elements like metal, light, and Salish design. James also collaborates with other artists to create new works that explore themes of identity and wholeness while reflecting First Nations stories. Overall, James Harry’s art is a powerful expression of his cultural heritage and a testament to the ongoing vitality and relevance of Indigenous art forms.
