Sarah Keller was born and raised in Kelowna, BC. Her love of the outdoors grew tremendously growing up in the oasis of her parent’s garden and in spending many family trips camping in BC Parks. She eventually moved to Vancouver to study Kinesiology, unaware that moving to the green Coastal Temperate Rainforest would quickly change her career plans, and instead inspire her to study algae, fungus and marine and forest ecology.

Sarah is fascinated by plants and wild things, and especially how humans interact and care for them. This passion led her to become a teacher. She learns alongside her 7-9 year old students, and hopes they develop the same curiosity for being human, enjoying plants and finding out what may be hiding under rocks.

Sarah was featured in Vancouver is Awesome and the Squamish Chief (2021) for her ‘Sh*tty Plants of the Pacific Northwest’ [link] poster as well as her ‘Mountains of the Sea to Sky’ poster (2022). In 2022, she also participated as a muralist in Squamish’s Mural Festival. You can see her humpback whale jumping out of a field of sunflowers on Cleveland Ave in Downtown Squamish.

Sarah now lives and works in Squamish, on unceded Sḵwx̱wú7mesh land, surrounded by the mountains and forest. When she’s not teaching or painting, you can find her hiking, climbing, mountain biking and hanging out with her supportive partner and silly dog.
