Based in Vancouver, Nancy Byrtus is an emerging artist and recent graduate of the Continuing Studies painting programme at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Her work alternates between landscapes and abstracts, often blurring the lines between both forms of imagery to arrive at a hybrid of the two. Favourite subject matters include mountains, serene waterscapes, patternmaking, Mid-Century Modern and Art Deco design.
Paintings submitted to the Squamish ArtWalk originated from the wish to learn more about mountain landscapes through the study of crystalline forms. Here, the peaks and valleys found in small crystals are abstracted and flattened into two dimensions and represented in acrylic paint on wooden boards.
