DESCRIPTION:Join the Squamish Public Library and Foundry Sea to Sky operated by Sea to Sky Community Services as we celebrate the dedication of a special new book into the Local History Collection. \n“A Transformation of Spirits” is a collaboratively produced coffee table book describing the story of how the Foundry Totem Pole was imagined\, carved\, painted and installed at Foundry Sea to Sky. We’ll be joined by See Appl-tun (Art Harry)\, Squamish Nation artist and mentor\, who will share his experiences leading a group of youth in the carving of this totem pole. \nWe will also be learning about Foundry Sea to Sky’s annual TRC Day Canoe Pull for youth\, through a video put together by local filmmaker Darren Roberts. See Appl-tun and his family are immersed in Canoe Culture\, which is used in Squamish Nation culture today to help young people and their families to engage in healing and restorative practices together.

DESCRIPTION:Sashiko is a running stitch used traditionally for quilting and mending in Japan. At its most elevated\, it is a fine art form\, but its humble roots come from country folk mending their indigo dyed hemp garments. Mending is having a renaissance as we look for ways to counter the wasteful and harmful aspects of the textile industry. In this fun\, relaxing workshop you will learn simple stitches\, including sashiko\, and mending techniques. Bring your jeans\, jean jacket or other textile item to mend or embellish. Bring scissors and a bit of fabric that inspires you or the pieces supplied (fee includes most materials & supplies). Note: the gallery is closed to the public during the workshop.

This series focuses mostly on nature subjects and the inspiration was from spending time outdoors in the mountains\, going on walks with my family\, and enjoying the nature that surrounds us.\nVANESSA SPARROW\, ‘Vaalia’\, felted fibre vessels & wall hangings\nMost important in my art\, aside from the simple joy of being able to express my fascination with organic shapes and textures (something I value deeply about felting) is the physical\, tactile nature of the process.
