Learning improv is about so much more than just being funny (which.. ya know… doesn’t hurt). But it’s honestly an art form where you will get out what you put into it! For example… Do you want to become more outgoing? Build awareness? Learn how to be truly present in any given moment? How about becoming a better listener? Trusting your impulses? And maybe even decreasing that post-Covid social anxiety we’ve all become afflicted with? These are skills you can practice with instant forgiveness in a safe space that fosters experimentation and personal growth. And we’ll even have a few laughs along the way. Come get silly and grow with us!

Squamish Arts Kia Vance Art School

Kia Vance

Kia Vance is an actor and Improvisor that was born, lives and plays on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples – Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Tsleil-Waututh & Musqueam First Nations. She performed as a main cast member with the Vancouver-based Instant Theatre Company for 5 years. She has also guested and performed across Vancouver with other improv groups such as The Fictionals (producers of Improv Against Humanity), and The Dirty Betty’s (fun, flirty, femme and dirty improv). She has performed internationally at improv festivals in Canada and the US, and she spent three years as the Social Coordinator for the Vancouver International Improv Festival. Kia strives to create a safe space for expression and experimentation where performers feel supported to hone their skills and see what works for them. Outside of acting and performance, Kia also works as a support worker for a non-profit community organization serving the sea to sky corridor. She is humbled and honoured to be given the opportunity to share this art form, and her passion for it, with you. She aims to support clients of all shapes and sizes who are committed to making a difference in the world.
